Lincoln Elementary 5th-graders take third place in Utah Stock Market Game
Lincoln Elementary School 5th grade students Isaac Hayes, Xander Anderson, and Caleb Sorenson, along with their teacher, Rosanne Porter, teamed up to tackle the Stock Market Game this spring, with great results. Out of the 179 elementary teams in Utah, the Lincoln 5th grade Stock Market Team took 3rd in the Elementary Division for the state of Utah. On May 11th, Porter and her students were each awarded a plaque, $50 my529 plan certificate, and a Stock Market Game bag of financial literacy material.
The Stock Market Game is a ten-week simulation of the Wall Street trading where students invest a hypothetical $100,000 in common stocks on the New York and American Stock Exchanges and the Nasdaq market. Over the ten weeks, the team of three, researched the stock selections, submitted their transactions and received daily portfolios highlighting their current holdings, brokerage fees, margin interest, and their team ranking. From this framework, students learned about the American economic system.
Congratulations to Rosanne Porter, Isaac Hayes, Xander Anderson, and Caleb Sorenson!
