Spring Creek Middle School's Table to Table program serves up kindness
Spring Creek Middle School's Table to Table team
Being kind to others can go a long way--just ask the students at Spring Creek Middle School. This year, students from the school's Stand for Courage club and student council teamed up to make a difference by implementing the Table to Table program. Table to Table is a program designed to create school unity and inclusion by ensuring that no student sits alone during the lunch hour.
Every day, students on the Table to Table team extend friendship to their peers as they sit with new people during lunch. “It is important that we all have someone talk to,” remarked Stand for Courage member, Addison. “I hope that by doing this more of my classmates feel important and know that they have someone there for them.”
“There were a lot of people that used to eat alone at lunch,” explained Isaac, a Spring Creek Middle School student council member. “They didn’t want to come to lunch because they were afraid they wouldn’t have anyone to sit by. So, we do this so no one has to eat alone, and then we can all have a good time at school.”
Isaac, another student leader, was excited about the changes he has witnessed throughout the school. “Sometimes people think they have to sit alone, but they really don’t have to,” he explained. “When I go sit and talk with new people and make a new friend, and I see them smile, I love it!”
“This program is so important,” added Addison. “When we include others, it might help keep them from feeling lonely and depressed. Overall, our school feels a lot happier.”
